"The first fire robot in the USSR" Memorial Sign was opened in Petrozavodsk

On June 17, 2022, the grand opening of "The First Firefighting Robot in the USSR" Memorial Sign took place in Petrozavodsk. The event was timed to coincide with the date of the creation of the first firefighting robot in our country, namely with June 18, 1984. On this day, the first firefighting robot created by specialists from Karelia took up its permanent duty to protect the monuments of wooden architecture on Kizhi Island ("Robot in Kizhi" TASS report, "Pravda" newspaper, 19.06.1984).

This technical solution made it possible to solve the problem of protecting the unique object. It was also a landmark event in the field of fire fighting in the country, and the beginning of the creation of a new scientific and technical direction, fire robotics. By now, a fire extinguishing technology using firefighting robots has been developed, and a production facility has been established for the production of firefighting robots. Currently, hundreds of significant objects in the country are protected by firefighting robots, including the objects of Rosatom, Roskosmos, Gazprom, sports and entertainment facilities and shopping centers.

The Memorial Sign is a full-sized model of the first firefighting robot made as a single structure with a base. At the base of the Memorial Sign, there is a caution plate with the following text: THE FIRST FIREFIGHTING ROBOT IN THE USSR. 1984 - Created to protect the Kizhi Museum-Preserve. 1986 - Participated in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the authorities of the Republic of Karelia and the city of Petrozavodsk, cultural and educational institutions, as well as veterans who personally participated in the events of those years: developers, designers, and journalists.

After the opening ceremony, the guests of the event were given a tour of the plant's buildings, during which they demonstrated the achievements and capabilities of the company.
